3 Reasons the Midwest is Your Best Holiday Trip ✈️

October Newsletter 2025

I'm on the other side: one new state and TWO new countries this month, done and dusted.

I was SO surprised at how much fun we all had in Grand Rapids, Michigan! Did you know it's less than two hours from Boston and in the same time zone? Me neither. I've already put together the itinerary guide below with a TON of photos, because the city is so pretty (and Lake Michigan too!)

Also keep your eyes peeled for the 13th-annual gift guides coming next month. I spend way, way too much on these curating the best travel products and experiences, many of which amplify marginalized voices and support minority and women-owned companies. It's a great way to shop mindfully this holiday season.

Behind the scenes: I'm taking a break next month to fully dive into Halloween, my daughter's 5th (!) birthday, and hosting Thanksgiving. But come December I'll be working with Daytona Beach, Florida on an awesome extended family trip! My aunt and uncle live in the area, so we're bringing the kids and my parents for a little getaway before Christmas. Fingers crossed the weather works out: but there's so much to do no matter what!

Rolling right along,

-Eileen

NEW! Add Grand Rapids, Michigan to your adventures: A weekend itinerary

by Eileen Cotter Wright

Let me tell you about Grand Rapids, Michigan. It has its own airport and is less than an hour from Lake Michigan. The city itself has great pride in its creativity and diverse offerings. There’s a thriving craft beer scene, walkable downtown boasting world-class museums, and lots of nearby outdoor space to connect with nature. As my first experience in the state, I’m so glad we took some time to relax and have fun in this ideal spot for traveling with family and friends.

Why Alaska offers the best value for luxury cruises

by Pure Wander Contributor

For many of us, exploring Alaska's wild and rugged wilderness is a dream come true. While there are many ways to encounter the beauty of Alaska, one of the best is via a luxury cruise. You get to appreciate Alaska's dramatic coastline, along with its unique marine life, and gain access to the Alaskan wilderness's forests and mountains through various day excursions.

May 2026 Pure Wander Travel Check out the latest on Instagram Hey Reader - On the road again! Las Vegas was something else; my first time back in 20 years! But this trip was much more laid back. We stayed in a gorgeous hotel off-strip, took a jeep tour into Red Rocks, and did some retro sightseeing at the Neon Museum. Heck, we avoided the strip all together! Next week I'll be on a panel at WITS: The Women in Travel Summit. It's one of my favorite gatherings all year. This time we take over...

April 2026 Pure Wander Travel Check out the latest on Instagram Hey Reader - This is the longest I've been at home for a WHILE. No planes since January! That's changing next month, but it's made space for lots of other good things. I've had a blast seeing some Boston attractions with my kids (The Museum of Ice Cream and the new pop-up Barbie Café) and playing tourist locally. We're outside more often, working on a wildflower garden at home, and having more playdates. I even lost my mind and...
